Flexibility, On-the-Job Know-How Earn Bogedin April Above & Beyond Award

From “hello” to “goodbye and see you again soon,” Justin Bogedin, a Materials Handler at the Decorah, Iowa, Spahn & Rose location, provides customer service as varied as inputting orders and stacking lumber on the back of a truck.

Having been trained for just about every responsibility, Bogedin provides the Decorah Spahn & Rose with the flexibility to help customers even when he’s extremely busy.

He wears multiple hats—inside as an inside sales representative [who deals with] paperwork, and outside in the yard. He’s very valuable because he’s able to multitask so much.”

Bogedin began working at the Decorah Spahn & Rose in August 2019, bringing with him a wealth of experience as a materials coordinator. At a previous job, Bogedin was proficient in the Epicor BisTrack system, which is also used to coordinate Spahn & Rose contractor accounts. Over the past year, meanwhile, Bogedin has continually burnished his skill set.

“My favorite part of my job is the logistics side,” Bogedin says. “But I really like being versatile. I like learning and being able to help a customer from when they come in the door, place an order and then help load two-by-fours.”

Bogedin and other recipients of the monthly Above & Beyond Award receive a $100 Visa gift card and are eligible to be named the company’s Employee of the Year, an honor that includes a $1,000 prize.

Spahn & Rose employees can be nominated for the monthly Above & Beyond Award by coworkers, supervisors and customers. When a customer submits a review, any employees mentioned are nominated for the honor. Customers can also nominate employees for Above & Beyond through Spahn & Rose’s social-media channels, including Facebook, Instagram and Twitter.

In addition to his other responsibilities, Bogedin serves on the Spahn & Rose Employee Engagement Council, a group of staffers who meet to discuss issues related to employee morale. In his spare time, he’s a volunteer firefighter in his hometown of Spring Grove, Minnesota; he also enjoys fishing, four-wheeling and spending time with his family. As he does at Spahn & Rose, Bogedin acts as a jack of all trades for several family members who have farms, helping with projects such as putting up fencing.
