Recently, a contractor rushed into Spahn & Rose’s Dunn Lumber location in Lake Geneva, Wisconsin. The customer was in a hurry and needed to grab some building materials and get back to the job site as fast as possible. Chiquita “Quita” Woods, a Dunn Lumber Hardware Cashier, quickly found what he needed and had him out the door with a smile.
“Lots of people come in who are in a rush and maybe grumpy, but if I can make my customers happy, they’ll carry that around with them and want to come back,” Woods says. “The constant customer contact is my favorite part of my job. The people here are awesome. I know most of them and joke with them when they come in.”
Because of her outstanding customer service and pitching in when Dunn Lumber needs fill-ins, Woods is the August 2021 recipient of the Above & Beyond Award.
Woods has worked at Dunn Lumber for more than 15 years and stayed with the business through its recent ownership transition, when Spahn & Rose acquired it in February 2019. Serving professional builders, remodelers and homeowners throughout Walworth County, southeastern Wisconsin and northern Illinois, Dunn Lumber offers hardware, rentals, lumber and building materials. The 18,000-square-foot store is also the home of DC Design Services, a full-service cabinet-design studio that caters to homeowners and contractors.
“We have been shorthanded on the hardware side, and Quita has stepped up to help the team,” says Ali Dowden, Controller for Dunn Lumber. “She has taken over her normal number of shifts and even canceled plans to come back into work after her scheduled hours to close when there was no one else. She has been working open-to-close shifts, and she deserves this recognition.”
Throughout the pandemic, Woods has been a stalwart team member at Dunn Lumber, according to Noah Green, Regional Operations Director. “Chiquita has stepped up during the past year and always volunteered to work whenever we needed her,” he says. “Whenever we call her to help out, she’s more than willing to come right in with a great attitude.”
In her off hours, Woods enjoys spending time with her family and playing with her Pomeranian, Foxxy.
Spahn & Rose employees like Woods can be nominated for the monthly Above & Beyond Award by coworkers, supervisors and customers. When a customer submits a review, any employees mentioned are nominated for the honor. Customers can also nominate employees for Above & Beyond through Spahn & Rose’s social media channels, including Facebook, Instagram and Twitter.
Woods and other recipients of the Above & Beyond Award receive a $100 Visa gift card and are eligible to be named the company’s Employee of the Year, an honor that includes a $1,000 prize.
